Twin XL mattresses are standardly 39 inches wide by 80 inches long. This size is ideal for people who are taller. It is an ideal option for smaller rooms. Twin XL beds are also common in dorm rooms.

The only difference between twin and twin XL is the length of the mattress. Twin XL beds are 5 inches longer than a standard twin. The width of the two is the same at 39 inches.

Due to the extra length added to twin XL mattresses, a twin XL mattress will not fit a twin bed frame. We encourage you to buy a twin XL bed frame if you have that size mattress. There are some companies that have universal sized frames that allow you to adjust to the size that you need but those are hard to come by.

Twin sheets will not fit a twin XL mattress due to it being 5 inches shorter. If you use twin sheets, your sheets will not cover the whole bed. Fitted sheets will also have issues staying in place because you will be overstretching the material. There are some sheets that can be adapted for both twin and twin XL mattresses. You will need to check the packaging to make should it is labeled to fit both. However, we do carry a selection of twin XL sheets that can fit your mattress perfectly.

If you put two twin XL mattresses together, it will equal the sizing of a standard king mattress. You will need to purchase king sheets or two sets of twin XL sheets for your beds. Both are great options depending on your needs.
